Maternity, Movement, and Magic
I’ve been lucky enough to work with some incredible women, and Julia’s maternity yoga shoot really stands out. When she reached out to me, she shared that she was nearing the final stretch of her pregnancy, and in the whirlwind of the last few months, she hadn’t taken any photos. She wanted to change that by celebrating herself as a strong, powerful woman – and what better way to do that than by capturing this special time in her life. We ended up having such a wonderful session, and I’m so glad I got to be part of this meaningful moment.
When it comes to the perfect backdrop for a shoot, Main Beach is always a top contender. (Check out this yoga shoot I did there last year!) It’s got everything: golden sand, the endless ocean, and a sense of calm that just works every time. There’s something about being by the water that effortlessly blends tranquility with strength and vitality. This was a 1 hour custom shoot but the beach gave us plenty of space to experiment with different poses and vibes—from strong, grounded yoga poses to Julia being in her radiant energy.
What was so special about Julia’s vision was how intentional it was. She didn’t want a typical maternity shoot—she wanted to embrace her beauty and strength; celebrate not just her pregnancy but her entire journey. From the peaceful moments on the beach to the red dress in the water, every moment was designed to reflect her inner strength and the power she felt between her body and mind. She embodied this goddess-like energy, and it was such a joy to witness her becoming more comfortable and confident as we worked together.
If I had to pick one favourite moment, it would be watching Julia’s confidence grow with every shot. We tried a variety of poses, from classic yoga postures to free-flowing movement. But the real magic happened when she wore her bold, red dress and headed into the water. The contrast between the bright dress and the blue of the ocean was just stunning. I experimented with a few blurry, dreamy shots to add a creative twist, and the results were pure magic – like capturing a beautiful moment frozen in time. By the end of the shoot, she wasn’t just posing for the camera; she was OWNING it.
I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Julia, and I can’t wait to see how these images help her tell her story.
